Catalans Dragons' Bell hopes for Wembley farewell

Catalans Dragons' Steven Bell wants to end his career with a Wembley appearance in the Challenge Cup final.

The 33-year-old Australian winger, who will face Warrington Wolves in Sunday's semi-final at Widnes, is retiring at the end of the season.

Bell is in his second season of Super League rugby after joining from Manly Sea Eagles.

He said: "It would be awesome, I think. Going to Wembley would be a great place to finish off."

Bell is confident after recent back-to-back wins over Bradford and Sunday's opponents: "We'll definitely get our confidence up out of those games.

"We're starting to get our nose in front and hang onto a lead so hopefully we can do just that for a couple more weeks."

The thought of another pre-season is just too much

Bell has enjoyed a successful career with spells at Manly and Melbourne but is most famous for his winning try for Queensland in the State of Origin series triumph in 2007.

Bell revealed he has no plans to reverse his decision: "That's enough for me as the thought of another pre-season is just too much.

"I'll get to see more of the family. It's a bit hard when you travel away every second week."

Bell's team-mate Thomas Bosc believes Wembley would be the highlight of his career. He said: "To get to Wembley would be a dream for me.

"When I was younger I used to love watching the Challenge cup finals and I really wanted to play in one myself."

The 26-year-old winger realises it will be a tough task to make the final but believes the Dragons are up for it: "We are bottom of the Super League and Warrington are a good team but we will give 200% to make sure we reach the final."
