Assistant coach Steve McNamara has opted to remain at Bradford Bulls, reports BBC Radio Leeds. McNamara's decision to stay at Odsal means he has turned down the chance to take over at Hull, who parted company with coach John Kear on Monday.
"We are delighted that Steve will be staying with the club," said Bulls chief executive Gareth Davies.
Bradford, the Super League champions, see McNamara, 34, as the long-term successor to Brian Noble.
Despite McNamara's decision, Hull said they are close to appointing Kear's successor.
"Hull FC would like to announce they plan to make an announcement in the next few days with regard to appointing a head coach," said a club statement.
"Once the announcement has been made, we are sure Hull FC fans will be pleased with the decision."
Salford coach Karl Harrison, another former Hull favourite whose contract with the Reds runs out at the end of the season, has been linked with the vacancy.
However, Salford chairman John Wilkinson is confident Harrison will stay, although the coach has not yet accepted the offer of a new three-year contract.

"Football director Steve Simms has been discussing the contract situation with Karl," said Wilkinson.
"We don't want to lose him but I don't feel under any pressure. People will look at Karl, of course they will.
"He knows the offer is there for him and he knows where his future is.
"I like continuity in life and believe Karl and Salford have a great future together."
