Former Great Britain forward Steve McNamara is to leave Huddersfield at the end of the season to join the coaching staff at his old club Bradford. McNamara, who will be 32 next month, is quitting the Giants after failing to secure a new playing contract.
The former Hull player, who was a member of Bradford's title-winning team in 1997, had been seen as a possible assistant coach to incoming McAlpine chief Jon Sharp.
"I know he was bitterly disappointed not to be offered a new playing contract but we had begun informal talks about a possible place on our coaching staff," said Huddersfield chief executive Ralph Rimmer.
McNamara will join head coach Brian Noble and assistants Phil Veivers and Bernard Dwyer on the backroom staff at Odsal, filling the vacancy created by last year's departure of Darryl Shelford to rugby union club Saracens.
