RFL review Super League Magic Weekend format

Paul Kimberley
Kimberley wants to hear what fans thought of the recent Magic Weekend

The Rugby Football League have confirmed that they are to review the format of their annual Magic Weekend.

Attendances were down more than 10 per cent for last weekend's fourth staging of the event at Murrayfield - and the RFL are seeking a response from fans.

"We have a few ideas on the table," RFL commercial director Paul Kimberley told the Super League Show. "We review everything we do as a matter of course.

"We want fans' feedback on venue, kick-off times and time of year."

The Magic Weekend was staged for the first time at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2007 and was repeated there the following year, when it attracted an overall weekend attendance of over 63,000.

It then moved from Cardiff to Murrayfield in 2009, when gates were slightly down, to 59,000. And last weekend's event, at which all 14 Super League clubs compete over the two days, saw them fall further to 52,043 - a decline of more than 10 per cent.
