Webb started and finished the try scoring for Leeds |
Leeds eased into the last eight of the Challenge Cup with a 12-try demolition of Championship One side Blackpool. Brent Webb helped himself to five tries and Michael Coady grabbed an 11-minute second-half hat-trick as the Rhinos overpowered their opponents. Blackpool only trailed 24-16 at half-time after tries from Martin Ainscough, John Clough and Damian Munro. But Leeds streaked away after the restart, with Greg Eastwood among the scorers on his return from injury. Blackpool came into the fifth-round tie on the back on a club record 11-match winning run but even though the Rhinos were without seven regulars the gulf in standards ultimately proved too much. Leeds took just 48 seconds to open the scoring, with Webb going over for the first of his two first-half tries. Ryan Hall ran in from 70 metres and Ali Lauitiiti also crashed over, but the Panthers kept themselves in the hunt with Ainscough scoring one and making one for Clough before Munro went over on the stroke of half-time. But any chance of an upset was snuffed out within four minutes of the restart as Leeds responded with tries from Webb, to complete his fifth hat-trick for the club, and Brett Delaney. Coady then scored twice in three minutes and Hall sent in Webb for his fourth before Kris Radcliffe scored a consolation for Blackpool. Leeds refused to take their foot off the gas though as Coady completed his hat-trick and Eastwood side-stepped his way over before Webb completed the rout.
