Tony Smith led Wolves to Challenge Cup success in his first year at the club |
Warrington coach Tony Smith has praised the concept behind this weekend's 'Murrayfield Magic' trip to Edinburgh. The Aussie believes the decision to again take a round of Super League fixtures to Scotland can help his club. "It's a chance for the players to get together and spend time together," Smith told BBC Radio Manchester. "It really can pull you together as a team-building and bonding thing. It's good. We're pleased about it. We don't get on a lot of trips together." This is the fourth year running that the RFL have operated the Magic Weekend concept, last year's inaugural trip to Edinburgh having followed two seasons at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. And, having attracted a crowd of 59,749 to Murrayfield over the two days for last year's event, the rugby league authorities are pleased with the way it has attracted interest. "I like it," admits Smith. "I'm looking forward to a big crowd up there and a great carnival atmosphere. "Not many sports could do what we're doing so we should celebrate that fact." Smith's Warrington play local rivals Salford in the third of Saturday's four Edinburgh fixtures (1700 BST).
