Hull (18) 28 Tries: Byrne 2, Hall, Washbrook, Tickle Goals: Tickle 4
Huddersfield (8) 20 Tries: Robinson, Snitch, Whaturia. Goals: Hemingway 3, Cudjoe
Hull are now within touching distance of the top six after Adam Dykes inspired his side to victory. Dkyes, on his return from illness, created four tries, two of them scored by Todd Byrne. Hull's other tries came from Craig Hall, Danny Washbrook and Danny Tickle, who also kicked four goals. But Hull didn't have it all their own way with Luke Robinson, Steve Snitch and Paul Whaturia all crossing for visitors Huddersfield. The opening try came in the 20th minute with Byrne notching his third of the season after a delightful pass from Dykes had sent Kirk Yeaman racing clear. | 606: DEBATE |
Soon after, Dykes again turned provider laying on two more tries, firstly for Hall who touched down in the corner and then Washbrook, who brushed off three tackles to score. Huddersfield did manage to score before the break, with Robinson's 10th try of the season and two goals from youngster Tom Hemingway bringing them back to 18-8. After the break Tickle added a fourth Hull try with 46 minutes gone after Tommy Lee had burst his way through the Huddersfield line. Huddersfield hit back through Snitch, who smashed his way over from close range, only for Dykes to again turn provider for Byrne who completed a brace of tries. With time running out, Huddersfield chased the game and Whatuira poached his sixth try of the season after Yeaman failed to deal with Robinson's kick through. But despite Hemingway converting from the touchline they left themselves with too much to do.
Hull coach Peter Sharp:
"Slowly but surely we're taking some small steps in the right direction. "It's not coincidental that we've got people back training and playing in their
correct positions. "Everyone is smiling and has got a spring in their step, we've got a few
personal back and the weather is a bit better. "As I've said all along, I thought we'd come together and I can see us moving forward a fair bit soon." Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp:
"I think we didn't start as well as what we could have done. "The first half an hour gave us a mountain to climb but I saw no shortage of heart or endeavour from the players. "At half time I thought I saw some chinks in Hull and I thought we could
exploit them in the second half. "The effort, endeavour and skill of the team was there and I was really proud of some
of the things we did."
