Hull recovered from a slow start to keep the pressure on Salford at the bottom of the Super League table.

Salford made a great start, with Aaron Moule and Luke Robinson's tries putting them 12-0 up after eight minutes.

But Gareth Raynor, Paul Cooke, Matt Sing and Danny Tickle scored in quick succession to give Hull a 22-12 half-time lead.

John Wilshere scored on 47 minutes to give Salford hope, but Hull pulled well clear in the last five minutes.

The scoreline was harsh on Salford, with Hull posting two tries in the last two minutes from Richard Horne and Raynor.

The Reds remain one point above Huddersfield in the table but will go bottom if the Giants can beat Wigan on Sunday.

Salford's night was made worse with the news that captain Malcolm Alker, making his return from a knee injury, was forced off after 12 minutes of action.

  • Hull coach Peter Sharp:

"It was a tremendous effort after being 12-0 down after six minutes.

"It was among our best efforts by a long way this year. Everyone put their hands up and quite a few had their best games of the season.

"I can see some things coming together over the last couple of weeks, which probably coincides with Paul Cooke coming back. He is a quality player."

  • Salford assistant coach James Lowes:

"We just need one big win and it will lead to a few. I am pretty confident we can do that.

"We had a great start. It was one of the things we had talked about. We couldn't have asked for a better start.

"We lost control in the second 20 and if you give Hull that amount of ball in decent field position they have world-class players who can hurt you.

"But I thought we were very good in the second half. We clawed our way back and just needed to be more clinical with our finishing."
