Hull clung on for victory in a thrilling derby after surviving a fierce Hull KR fightback.
Hull took advantage of Rovers' obvious early nerves to score through Danny Tickle and Shaun Briscoe, before Luke Dyer got Rovers back in the game.
Rovers began the second half well before Motu Tony's huge kick reception set up Matt Sing to score for Hull.
David Tangata-Toa and Andreas Bauer gave Rovers hope but Sid Domic's last-minute try shook them off.
Rovers errors gifted Hull two early tries from knock-ons.
The first came from Jon Goddard, allowing Gareth Raynor and Paul Cooke to combine well and set up Tickle to go over in the corner.
Briscoe darted over from close range for another after Byron Ford's knock-on, before Rovers calmed things down.
Their pressure culminated in Dyer's touchdown and they kept it up after the restart, before Tony's 80 yard kick return set up Sing for Hull's third.
Tangata-Toa stretched to touch down for Rovers before Bauer scored to cut Hull's lead to two points, setting up a grand slam finale.
But Domic powered over for a last-minute try to make the points safe.
Hull coach Peter Sharp: "Winning the derby was nice but we really needed the points.
"We have got a lot of improvement to go and we are committing suicide at the moment with our discipline and the number of penalties we are conceding.
"Rovers hung in there but if we had been a little smarter we could have won
it earlier. I'm very pleased with the win and I'm also pleased for the game."
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan:
"We thought we had the momentum but we didn't get the bounce of the ball at
times.
"At times we just clocked off for one tackle and that was what they needed.
"It was one of those days when we put the effort in and didn't get the result. We're moving forwards and that is the main thing."
