Harlequins held off a late Hull fightback to claim their first home win of the Super League season.
Quins led 30-12 with just over 10 minutes to go after tries from Jon Wells, Andy Smith, Mark McLinden, Daniel Heckenberg and Julien Rinaldi.
But Hull struck back with scores from Richard Horne, his second of the game, Craig Hall and Matt Sing.
However, Hall failed to convert Sing's effort which would have levelled the game and Quins hung on for the win.
Harlequinsl coach Brian McDermott:
"It was hard work, Hull were always going to
have a say. "I thought we were the better team for 65 minutes but when Hull started
pressing and you find yourself defending like that it's almost impossible to get
the ball back unless they make a mistake.
"We found a way of getting men behind the ball. It's not in any manual of
defence. It wasn't pretty but sometimes you have to do that to win games."
Hull coach Peter Sharp:
"Craig is in the side to kick goals and he didn't. It's cruel
but that's Super League and people's careers are on the line. "But he's a young kid and he'll recover. We've had a poor pre-season and
several injuries and some young kids out there are finding it really hard.
"I think the game was there for the taking. It's been a frustrating year and
we've lacked intensity. Intensity in defence is the cornerstone of any side."
