Wakefield's second half comeback was in vain after Bradford held on for victory after dominating the first half.
David Solomona scored against his old side between two Lesley Vainikolo tries as the Bulls ran riot, and Wakefield looked on course for another pasting.
Matt Blaymire, Kevin Henderson and Peter Fox all scored after the break to give Wakefield hope.
Michael Platt and Chris McKenna's tries calmed any nerves before Jamie Rooney's try meant Wakefield got the last score.
Wakefield coach John Kear: "I think six tries to five was a true reflection of the game and it shows
what a valuable goalkicker Paul Deacon is.
"I don't think people realised how strong the wind was. It had a massive
effect on field position.
"We were all at sea in the first half but addressed a few issues at half-time and I was delighted with the response."
Bradford coach Steve McNamara: "It was definitely not our smartest performance but it was one of the
bravest.
"We had a lot to overcome after Thursday, not only physically but
emotionally, and we were down to 15 players because of injury.
"I can't be too harsh on the players with the amount of effort they put in."
