St Helens captain Sean Long with the Grand Final trophy |
St Helens coach Daniel Anderson said his side were worthy of a place among the all-time greats after their 26-4 Super League Grand Final win over Hull. "I hope people will be talking about this team for many years to come - it was just our year," he told Sky Sports.
"We only lost four games this year by one, two, three and four points.
"That shows the level of performances they've given. It can't get much better than this. I'm absolutely stoked and I'm going to enjoy the celebrations. "
Paul Anderson, playing the last game of his career before joining the coaching staff at Huddersfield, paid tribute his team-mates and to opponents Hull, saying the match was not as one-sided as the scoreline suggested.
"This game was every bit as tough as the 12-8 win over them at Knowsley Road the other week. All credit to Hull, they came and stuck it to us," he said.
"That's definitely it for me - there's absolutely zero chance of getting me out on that pitch next season.
"These fans and these players are awesome. It's been a privilege to be part of it."

Jamie Lyon was another player making his last appearance in a Saints shirt, although in his case it is because he is returning to Australia, rather than retiring.
And he said it was the perfect way to sign off.
"I reckon this is the best game and stadium I've ever played in," he said.
"It'll be hard to say goodbye, I think I'll shed a few tears.
"But who knows, maybe I'll come back here again one day. Ever since I got here everyone has made me feel welcome - these have been two of the best years of my life."
