Wigan opened up a four-point gap over basement club Wakefield after a seven-try victory over Catalans.
Mark Calderwood raced over in the third minute and further scores from Bryan Fletcher and Harrison Hansen gave the Warriors a 20-0 half-time lead.
The Catalans, who made a host of handling errors, got on the scoreboard through winger Thomas Bosc.
But there was to be no dream comeback and Pat Richards, David Vaealiki, Chris Ashton and Mickey Higham all crossed.
Wigan have now won six of their last seven matches and are just one point behind Castleford and Harlequins.
Wigan coach Brian Noble
"I thought we were pretty good although our ball control left a lot to be desired in the first half. "But the defence was good and we showed enough in attack to demonstrate that we have some talent in the team.
"We are now comfortable defending our own line and that element of concentration and discipline is coming into the team."
Catalans Dragons coach Mick Potter
"The players didn't perform as well as they can and there work off the ball was poor but Wigan are a different team these days. "From last week when we beat Salford it was just chalk and cheese.
"At the moment I'm clueless - we have one good performance and then one poor one and that's not good enough."
