Salford: (6) 10
Tries: Finnigan, Wilshere
Goals: Hodgson
Richard Horne's last-second drop goal clinched a narrow victory for Hull over Salford in a tense encounter.
Two Paul Cooke goals and a Danny Washbrook try had put Hull in control before Simon Finnigan responded with Shayne McMenamy in the sin bin.
John Wilshere gave Salford the lead early in the second half but Cooke's third successful kick levelled matters.
A draw seemed likely before Horne's intervention clinched the points to keep Hull in second place in the table.
Hull coach Peter Sharp "It was really tough and I got wrapped up in the game a little bit. It was quite enjoyable.
"It was just a quality game with two very tough sides, very good defensive sides but somehow we found a way to win.
"I'd have still been happy had it finished a draw. It was a quality game of footy from start to finish."
Salford coach Karl Harrison "Two years ago we came here and lost by almost 80 points. That shows how far this club has come.
"I thought it was a tough game where both teams fully put their bodies on the line. I am very proud of my players.
"I don't think we played particularly well though with the ball in hand. I thought it was a really scrappy, defensive type game but I'm really pleased, even with a defeat."
