Gareth Raynor scored a hat-trick as Hull beat Leeds for the first time in their last 12 Super League encounters.

Richard Horne, Shayne McMenemy and Kirk Yeaman crossed in addition to Raynor's hat-trick as Hull built a 36-6 lead, with Paul Cooke adding six conversions.

Richie Mathers scored Leeds' opening try and they rallied late on through Danny McGuire and Keith Senior (2).

Rob Burrow kicked four goals for Leeds, while Cooke scored a penalty and converted Nathan Blacklock's late try.

The win takes Hull to third place in the Super League table, while Leeds remain in second and are now six points behind St Helens.

The victory was Hull's sixth in succession - and their third under new coach Peter Sharp.

Stand-off Paul Cooke created three Hull tries - and was successful with all eight goal attempts.

Hull opened the scoring through Mathers, before good work from Burrow and Matt Diskin created an opening for Mathers to level.

The visiting team then took control - McMenemy scoring before Cooke produced a long cut out pass and then a precision kick that both created tries for Raynor.

The Hull charge continued after the break with Raynor and Yeaman also scoring.

Leeds brought some respectability to the scoreline with McGuire, Senior and Lee Smith both crossing.

But a penalty from Cooke and a late score from Blacklock after Sid Domic carved out an opening ensured the 2,000 Hull fans went home happy.

  • Leeds coach Tony Smith:
"We found some urgency as well as some energy and desire. We needed that energy early in the game.

"I need to go away and analyse and talk to my troops. Every game is an education and we certainly need to learn some things from that.

"My players are hurting and I'm hurting with them. We'll get stronger for it."

  • Hull coach Peter Sharp:
"There were some absolutely amazing passages of football.

"It was a bit patchy in the second half but it's hats off to the boys. That's six wins in a row and we've got a break next week so we can draw breath.

"Gareth's very skilful and a great talent with the ball, though he needs to work on other areas of his game."
