Gleeson returns to Wolves
Mark Gleeson
Gleeson left Warrington in May
Warrington have re-signed Mark Gleeson on a one-year deal after the 20-year-old hooker returned from Australia.

Gleeson, younger brother of St Helens and Great Britain centre Martin, originally joined the Wolves in 1999 but emigrated last May.

"Mark is a young player with immense potential and whose talent we need to realise. He provides genuine competition for the dummy-half spot," said coach Paul Cullen.

Gleeson is the fourth player to return to the club, joining Warren Stevens, Mike Wainwright and Ian Sibbit, while Brent Grose has been signed from South Sydney Rabbitohs.

In other Super League transfer news, England U-21 international Paul Salmon has asked to be released from his contract with Widnes without playing a game for the club.

The former Barrow player signed a two-year deal with the Vikings in June but arrived for pre-season training with an old ankle injury, which forced him to pull out of the recent England A tour to the Pacific.

The injury was not covered by Widnes' medical insurance and, in the absence of any insurance from Barrow, Salmon has now asked for his release.

"We are very sorry that the relationship has ended in this way because we felt he had the potential to make a major impact in Super League," a Vikings spokesman said.

"It is disappointing because we had fought off the challenge of other clubs to sign Paul."
