McNamara stays with Giants
McNamara was a key player for Huddersfield last term
McNamara signed from Wakefield two years ago
Huddersfield captain Steve McNamara has signed a one-year deal to continue as the club's player-assistant coach.

McNamara turned down an offer to join the backroom staff at Hull to remain with the Giants on their return to Super League.

The key factor in the 31-year-old's decision was his desire to prolong his playing career.

Hull's offer was to replace Halifax-bound Tony Anderson as Shaun McRae's assistant.

McNamara said on Thursday: "It was a flattering offer to receive but I believe I've got many years to look forward to as a coach but only one or two as a player.

"I want to prove to everyone that I've still got what it takes [in Super League]," he added.

The former Hull and Bradford star was a key influence on last season's promotion charge and was nominated for the Northern Ford Premiership's player of the year award.

Coach Tony Smith said of McNamara's contribution: "He has earned the right to carry on playing in my team because of the high standard of his performances.

"Over the last year he has become almost reborn as a player."
