McNamara agrees new Giants deal
McNamara is determined to win promotion
McNamara is determined to win promotion
Steve McNamara and Graeme Hallas have become the latest players to agree new contracts with Huddersfield.

But Australian Troy Stone has signed for Super League new boys Widnes Vikings on a two-year deal.

Giants coach Tony Smith was extremely keen to secure the influential McNamara on a new deal.

Steve is a cornerstone signing for us

McNamara's decision comes just a day after Paul Reilly committed his future to the club and Friends Provident agreed a new sponsorship deal.

"I was part of the side that got relegated and I feel it is right to stay and give my best to get us back into Super League," said McNamara.

Smith believes McNamara will be a key player in the Giants' promotion campaign: "Steve is a cornerstone signing for us.

"His experience and know-how will be vital in the long campaign that faces us."

Hallas signed for Huddersfield from Keighley Cougars last season but made just one Super League appearance before injury ended his campaign. His deal with the club is on a part-time basis.

Reilly rejected offers from unnamed Super League clubs to remain at Huddersfield and became the first of the club's star players to commit to the Giants.

"The fans love Paul, and Paul loves the club, so we're all delighted an agreement has been reached," said chief executive Ralph Rimmer.

"We expect him to have a major impact in the Northern Ford Premiership."

Sponsorship boost

The new sponsorship deal with Friends Provident will be at a reduced level from last season, when the Giants were a Super League team.

But its decision to remain committed to Huddersfield is a huge fillip for the club.

"It's a massive coup for the club to retain Friends Provident as the club's major sponsor," said Rimmer.

Talks are currently under way with David Atkins and Stanley Gene, with further announcements expected soon.
