McAvoy ponders union switch
Robbie Paul in action with Gloucester

Bradford Bulls centre Nathan McAvoy is considering joining former team-mate Henry Paul at Gloucester.

The 25-year-old England international is out of contract in November and became frustrated after talks broke down with his Bulls employers.

McAvoy, who also plays on the wing in league, is currently in talks with Gloucester about a potential code switch.

He told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus: "I have been told by a lot of people I would make a fantastic union player.

"I have never played union at any decent level. But I have played sevens and I think I could make the switch."

McAvoy was part of the Bulls side which won union's Middlesex Sevens in August.

I want to try and get this sorted as soon as possible
Nathan McAvoy on his future

And the former Salford player has already discussed the move with Paul and Gloucester director of rugby Nigel Melville.

Melville, though, insisted any deal looked unlikely.

He said: "Nathan has been to Kingsholm. But the financial situation at the moment means we cannot explore it."

McAvoy has yet to hold talks with other Premiership union sides but could yet make the transition from league to union.

"I have been trying to talk about my contract for over a year," he added.

"Bradford are taking their time. I want to try and get this sorted as soon as possible."
