St Helens have signed Australian utility player Jason Hooper from St George Illawarra.

The 24-year-old has agreed a three-year deal, conditional on receiving a work permit and is scheduled to join on 1 December.

The 6ft 1in Hooper, who can play as a back or forward, has appeared in 18 games for the Dragons this season and previously played for Saints coach Ian Millward at Illawarra.

Millward said: "Jason is a fantastic player with youth on his side.

"We have obtained a player that is young and will be able to develop and integrate perfectly with the Saints style of play."

St Helens will have to release one of their five current overseas players to make room for Hooper on their quota.
