He will be out for six weeks after sustaining the freak injury in training. The news is a major blow for Great Britain ahead of the Sydney Test on 12 July.
They have already lost Cunningham's Saints team-mate Sean Long with a wrist injury. Both Long and Cunningham, who is widely regarded as the best hooker in the game, missed last year's Ashes Series. St Helens and Lancashire coach Ian Millward said: "The player is devastated. "He was really looking forward to the Origin games and the Test match in Australia. It was a freak accident. "It is a big blow to him and the club but he will be back." | See also: 19 May 02 | Super League 13 May 02 | Rugby League 17 Oct 01 | Ashes Series Top Super League stories now: Links to more Super League stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
