Queensland victory levels series
MATCH SUMMARY
Carl Webb shows his delight after scoring the opening try for Queensland
Queensland (14) 30
Tries: Webb, Hodges, Mogg 2, Berrigan
Goals: Thurston 5
NSW (0) 6
Try: Tahu
Goal: Hodgson
Queensland ensured the State of Origin series will go to a third-game decider after trouncing New South Wales 30-6 in the second game in Brisbane.

A Johnathan Thurston penalty and tries from Carl Webb and Justin Hodges gave the Maroons a 14-0 half-time lead.

Wing Adam Mogg scored on the resumption after great work from Thurston and Mogg's second settled the outcome.

Shaun Berrigan finished off a superb try before NSW scored late on through Timana Tahu, but it was no consolation.

The series will now be decided in Melbourne on 5 July, the Blues having won the opening game 17-16 in Sydney.

Queensland started with the frenetic urgency to be expected from a team facing the prospect of becoming the first to lose four Origin series in a row.

After Hodges was held up short of the line early on, they were rewarded with a sixth-minute penalty from Thurston.

But it was 20 minutes before the opening try arrived, Origin debutant Mogg announcing himself by driving Mark Gasnier into touch after he claimed Thurston's high kick.

We have won the battle but not the war. We have to finish them off in Melbourne

Carl Webb
From the resultant five-metre scrum, Chris Flannery picked up from the base and a simple inside pass sent Webb through the defence and over, Thurston adding the goal.

A shell-shocked Blues side were just starting to gather some momentum when they were rocked by a classic interception try in the 32rd minute.

Hodges moved out of defence to claim a pass on his own 10m line and raced the rest of the field to the delight of the majority of the 52,000 Suncorp Stadium crowd.

Thurston's goal made it 14-0, the same half-time lead the Blues enjoyed in the opening game of the series in Sydney.

It could have been worse for the visitors, who required three players to hold up the marauding Brent Tate over their own goal-line as the interval beckoned.

The first score in the second half was crucial, and it went to the Maroons after a poor pass from Blues stand-off Braith Anasta eluded Gasnier.

To score two tries in my first Origin game is a dream

Adam Mogg
Thurston kicked ahead and picked up superbly on the run before off-loading as he tumbled to the ground for Mogg to touch down, Thurston's goal making it 20-0.

New South Wales should have got back into it when they developed a three-on-one overlap down the left wing after 58 minutes, but Steve Menzies delayed his pass and Darren Lockyer knocked the ball loose in his tackle.

Instead the Maroons put the outcome beyond doubt with two tries in four minutes.

First Mogg - who will play for Catalans Dragons in the Super League next season - grabbed his second when he took Cameron Smith's pass and finished in the left corner.

Then the hosts broke away to score a great try, superb handling putting Lockyer clear before the captain fed Berrigan for the score.

Thurston's goal put Queensland on track to equal their record 30-point winning margin, but the Blues finally rallied with a Tahu try three minutes from time.

But it was far too little, far too late.
