Whiting ran the length of the field to score his first try of the afternoon
Richard Whiting scored two second-half tries as Hull FC breezed to their best Super League win of the season.
Tries from Gareth Moore and Kyle Amor gave the hosts an early lead before Joe Westerman, Kirk Yeaman and Richard Horne put Hull in front at half-time.
Danny Tickle, who kicked six goals, and Whiting extended Hull's lead before Luke George crossed for Wakefield.
Jordan Turner, Mark O'Meley, Tom Briscoe and Lee Radford all went over as Hull finished with 10 tries.
Wakefield looked to be on their way to a Super League double over Hull this season, having beaten them 20-6 at the KC Stadium in March, before three tries for the visitors saw them fight back from 12-0 down to take a four-point advantage into the second half.
Hull were hampered by Yeaman, who had claimed his 18th try of the season, suffering an epileptic fit at half-time. But Tickle added to Hull's lead before Whiting sprinted the length of the field for a memorable second try, after George had narrowed the deficit.
Turner then crossed as the Black and Whites staged a second-half rout, which was helped by Wildcats' Jeremy Smith being sin-binned for consecutive offences.
O'Meley, Briscoe and Radford made sure Hull reached double figures as the Wildcats were left heavily beaten for a second consecutive week.
POST-MATCH VIEWS
Hull coach Richard Agar:
"We wanted to go out there in the second half and perform for Kirk Yeaman. I thought we finished the game all right and we haven't done that as well as we possibly could have done in recent weeks.
"A 12-point lead can be overcome in the 80 minutes, there's always plenty of changes in momentum in a game and those changes came around."
Wakefield coach John Kear:
"I'm disappointed, frustrated and embarrassed at our second-half performance. We've gone from a team of young men who looked like they were giving their all and trying, and that was not perceived to be the case on the sidelines in the second half.
"We couldn't get the ball, we had five sets of six in 25 minutes. There was no energy there and we couldn't defend."
"We had the same player sin-binned again and we've just got blown away by 35 points in the second half. The words are not being heeded and the discipline is not there so we'll have to go back to a young trying team."
