York City Knights coach Dave Woods frustrated by defeat
Woods led York City Knights to promotion in 2010
York City Knights coach Dave Woods was at a loss to explain his side's poor performance during their 50-16 defeat at Batley in the Championship.
The result leaves York in the bottom three of the table with the worse defensive record.
Woods told BBC Radio York: "I'm very disappointed with our application.
"To go backwards - I don't know, I can't put my finger on it. You have got to question the players and why that is happening," he added.
Woods again blamed basic mistakes for a poor performance.
"Once again, just stupid errors just dropping balls and missing one on one tackles.
"If you saw the blokes in training and how hard they work, they don't put balls down and we do a lot of contact work and it's something I've always really prided my coaching on."
Woods said the players were also angry about the defeat.
"They were really filthy about it. They sat in the sheds after the game. No-one spoke for a good four or five minutes and no-one moved.
"Then a couple of players yelled and screamed and had a go at blokes for not putting their hand up and digging in. They're as angry and upset as everyone else.
"It's so frustrating because we've got some good players. We knew all along it was going to be a very tough season.
"We knew it was a hard competition to play in and the teams were going to be very tough and we knew we'd do it tough during the year.
"We just thought we'd be doing a little bit better at this stage.
"There's still a long way to go and we're not giving up. We're all going to stick together and keep working hard. That's all we can do."
