Thomas ran in only his second try of the campaign for Crusaders |
Gareth Thomas's try sealed Crusaders' second win of the season to lift them off the bottom of Super League XVI and take them out of minus points to zero. Jordan Tansey's interception try - his first for the Welsh club - gave Crusaders a 6-0 lead at the break. Jarrod Sammut was ruled to have reached the line by the video referee for a second try to put the visitors 12-0 up. Ray Cashmere and Jodie Broughton crossed to pull it back to 12-10 before Thomas's 71st minute try sealed it. It was a thoroughly deserved win for Crusaders, who were denied a fourth try in the second half when Ben Flower had a try ruled out on review for a double movement. Iestyn Harris's side had not won since beating Salford 42-12 at the Millennium Stadium on the opening weekend of the season. And this victory continues their dominance over the Reds, Crusaders having now won the last four Super League meetings between the two clubs. They leap above Wakefield into 13th, while Salford remain in ninth.
