Winger Jodie Broughton scored four tries as Salford leapfrogged Catalan Dragons in the Super League table with victory in Perpignan.

Broughton helped himself to two scores in four first-half minutes as the Reds raced into a 10-0 lead.

Cyril Stacul went over for the hosts to reduce the arrears before the interval, only for Broughton to complete his hat-trick straight after the restart.

Sebastien Raguin put Dragons back in it but Broughton's fourth sealed the win.

It was a second successive victory for the Reds, who beat Hull KR last weekend, and could have been more convincing against a Dragons side who were poor throughout.

They were not helped by the late withdrawal of playmaker Scott Dureau, but Salford took full advantage as centre Stefan Ratchford sent Broughton over for his first two quickfire scores.

Catalan did get on the scoreboard after 27 minutes when Stacul capped a fine move to touch down.

Broughton calmed nerves of a French fighback by scoring with a mazy 30-yard run immediately after half time, but Dragons were within a converted score when Setaimata Sa chased down his own kick to play in Raguin, Tony Gigot adding the extras.

But Broughton wrapped things up 10 minutes from time when he burst on to Daniel Holdsworth's reverse pass and outpaced Clint Greenshields and Damien Blanch to complete his first four-try haul in Super League.

Catalan head coach Trent Robinson:
"There were some things that you really don't want to see from your team out there tonight.

"We had trouble finishing our sets and without halves that can happen.

"There was some indecision at times in our attacking plays, but in the end you have to make your tackles and we didn't do that enough out there.

"We should have stopped some of those tries out there. I feel that we have taken a step backwards tonight."

Salford assistant coach Malcolm Alker:
"It was a really good result for us. To come over here and get two points is a fantastic achievement for the boys.

"At times in the game our backs were against the wall and they had us on the back foot, but we managed to hang on and come through the other side.

"Jodie Broughton probably got the icing on the cake and will get the headlines but he was outstanding in a lot of areas out there."
