Castleford ran in 10 tries to hammer lowly Crusaders and climb to second in Super League.

Kirk Dixon crossed the line twice in the first half and kicked eight goals in an individual haul of 24 points.

Daryl Clark and Dean Widders also went over in the first period, as Crusaders paid for having three men sin-binned.

The Tigers added a further six scores in the second period, including Clark's second, while Crusaders rallied to grab three consolation tries.

Hammering Super League's bottom side was the perfect way for Cas to bounce back from last week's 18-14 reverse at Bradford, their first defeat of the season.

Crusaders, who gave a debut to former Leeds and Hull utility man Jordan Tansey, went behind in the fifth minute when a swift crossfield move was finished by Dixon, who added a touchline conversion.

The first half was marred by an 18th-minute brawl that saw Crusaders duo Vince Mellars and Michael Witt and Castleford's Nick Youngquest sin-binned.

The Tigers made the most of their advantage as Clark forced his way over and, when Clinton Schifcofske was sin-binned for throwing a spare ball onto the pitch in an apparent attempt to slow down play to again leave the Welsh side without the full 13 men, Dixon and Widders crossed to put the hosts out of sight.

Crusaders remained under the cosh in the early part of the second half as Youngquest sent in Clark for his second and Rangi Chase provided for Brett Ferres.

Willie Isa and Richie Mathers got their first tries for the Tigers before Stuart Reardon finally got Crusaders on the board.

Mellars and Tony Martin gave the visitors some further cheer, but there was still time for Youngquest and Joe Arundel to complete the Castleford romp.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson:
"We played against a side who are struggling for numbers and are battling in every sense but we did the job and I'm really pleased about that.

"It was good to see the boys throwing the ball around and enjoying themselves in the second half. I am sure the crowd enjoyed it as well."

Crusaders coach Iestyn Harris:

"I thought the penalty count was harsh but ultimately we obviously have got a problem because we seem to be on the end of some very one-sided penalty counts at the moment, so perhaps that is something we need to adjust.

"I thought we caught Castleford on a good day but it's tough when you have three men in the sin-bin.

"It was a very difficult first half and the penalty count made it very difficult to compete but I don't want to take anything away from Castleford. They were good when they had the ball and they had way too much of it from the penalties."
