York City Knights have announced the signing of former Hull KR under-20s half-back Benn Hardcastle. He joined Sheffield Eagles at the start of the season but left after not playing a game for them after finding it difficult travelling from Hull. Coach Dave Woods told BBC Radio York: "He'll put some pressure on the halves and is be another good addition." The Knights initially cooled their interest in Hardcastle after Eagles refused to release his contract. But Woods said that matter has been sorted out: "He was released by Sheffield the other day after an ongoing thing. They released him but they wouldn't release his contract. "They've finally done that for him and he trained with us on Tuesday night." Hardcastle was going to make his debut in the reserves game against Oldham before the match was postponed.
