Knights' forward Jack Stearman was coached by Paul Higgins as a junior |
York City Knights coach Dave Woods took the positives from their opening pre-season friendly against a strong Castleford Tigers. The Knights lost 62-10 but Woods felt there was a lot to build on. "We did a lot of good things so we're not too upset and we know we've got work to do," Woods told BBC Radio York. "But we're not going to come up against sides with class like that. We're not worried about the result. We want to be worried about individual performances." Woods continued: "We played against a very good side with a lot of Super League experience and full time players even though they're only young. "The weather has played havoc with us and we had our first run out on grass on Saturday." York meet Castleford again on Sunday at the Huntington Stadium in a game played in memory of former Castleford player and York scholarship coach, Paul Higgins who died two years ago. A percentage of the proceeds from the game will be donated to the charity set up in his name for junior rugby league in York and North Yorkshire. Both clubs are once again expected to name a number of first-team squad members in their sides.
