Oldham Roughyeds have signed youngster Matthew Fogarty on a one-year deal. The 18-year-old has most recently been playing at Saddleworth and has also spent three years in the development scheme at Salford City Reds. Reserve coach John Hough told the club website: "He is an outstanding prospect, I have high hopes of Matthew. "He will start off in the reserves but the pathway to the first team is in place, so the opportunities will be there for him to grasp." Forgarty reportedly turned down Super League clubs including Huddersfield Giants, to sign for his home-town club. He told the club website: "I used to watch Oldham every week when I was a small boy. I once told my dad, 'I'm going to play for them one day'. "I have long-term dreams like playing in a Grand Final at Old Trafford and turning out for England against the Aussies and the Kiwis, but I know that if those things are ever going to happen they are a long way down the line." Roughyeds now have 22 players under contract for 2011 and 10 of those have grown up in the Oldham area.
