Demons captain Chris Webber collected their second RLC title |
Northampton Demons won their second successive Rugby League Conference title against Parkside Hawks by 16-12. They became the first side in the competition's history to retain a trophy thanks to a late try from man-of-the-match, Kie Fewster. Chairman Andrew Quirke told BBC Radio Northampton: "It was a great achievement and we're very proud. "We took the decision to stay [in the Midlands Regional division] last year, but we need to move up next season." Northampton had beaten Parkside in the quarter-finals of the same competition in 2009. Quirke says the club now hope to move up the Midlands Premier level for 2011. "It depends on what teams in the Midlands Premier go to the National division, and that'll determine where we'll go," he said. "If we have to prove ourselves again then we will do that and get even stronger, because we want to perform on the national stage eventually."
