Oldham Roughyeds say they are working with the Rugby Football League to deal with a winding-up petition.

A hearing on the petition brought by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs is due to be heard in London on Wednesday, 8 September.

Chairman Chris Hamilton said: "We have been aware for some time and so have the RFL that this was on the horizon, but we are working closely together."

Roughyeds faced a similar situation in November 2009 over unpaid debts.

Hamilton added: "I have stated previously that you don't clear debts caused by losses over 13 years in half a season but the fans can rest assured that, in conjunction with the sport's governing body, we are working hard to make sure this latest situation is dealt with appropriately.

"When I took over the club again last November it was made clear then that we would have to make significant cuts to budgets and that has happened this season."

A statement on the club's website said there was "nothing new' about the current situation.
