Workington Town coach Gary Charlton has blasted his squad after Sunday's 34-point defeat at Doncaster almost derailed their play-off bid. Town booked the final Championship One play-off place on points average thanks to a late try in a 46-12 loss, leaving Charlton angered by his side's display. "It's the worst performance we've put in this season," Charlton told BBC Radio Cumbria. "It's not acceptable and we've got a lot of hard work to do." Swinton's 94-0 win against Gateshead Thunder almost closed the gap on the Cumbrians, who ended the game with minus four points, seven better than the Greater Manchester side. Town have been paired with Blackpool in their play-off eliminator on Sunday, 5 September.
