Whitehaven sign dual-code Scotland centre Tom Philip

Whitehaven have signed former Scotland rugby union international Tom Philip on a three-month deal.

Philip, 26, has experience in the Six Nations and also Heineken Cup rugby with former club side Edinburgh.

However a serious knee injury in May 2004 halted his playing career, and it took four years to begin recovery.

Haven coach Ged Stokes offered Philip a reserve-grade trial and the centre impressed in an 82-0 defeat of Batley - his first game in the 13-man code.

Meanwhile second-row Reece Fox has been banned for two matches for illegal use of the forearm against Widnes.

Fox will miss the Challenge Cup tie against Blackpool and the league visit of Halifax a week later.
