Barrow hooker Andrew Henderson suffers eye injury

Barrow coach Steve McCormack has revealed hooker Andrew Henderson suffered an eye injury in Sunday's Northern Rail Cup defeat by Widnes.

Henderson, 30, was withdrawn following the incident and McCormack admitted the captain is a doubt for Wednesday's game against Doncaster.

Mccormack told BBC Radio Cumbria: "The eye is quite heavily bleeding inside.

"We're looking at getting that checked out at the specialist and it's an eye so we have to be very careful."

Henderson was a close-season acquisition from McCormack's former club Gateshead Thunder and has also worked with the Scotland coach as part of the national team set-up.

Meanwhile, the postponement of Barrow's opening Northern Rail Cup game against Doncaster means that McCormack's side have two games in seven days, starting with the rearranged fixture against the Yorkshire side on Wednesday.

However the former Widnes and Gateshead boss is keen for his players to return to active duty and put the Widnes loss behind them.

"It's a good game for us to have on Wednesday as I'm a firm believer that when you get beat you want to get back to the next game as soon as possible," he said.

"We're going to have a bit of patching up to do on Monday and Tuesday. Anyone who saw that game will know both sides absolutely hammered each other here.

"We can't disrespect Doncaster in any way, we have to go up there and know we can't afford any more slip-ups, the defeat [by Widnes] just signals that we've got to step it up a little bit."
