The York City Knights' sponsorship deal with Selby-based Mayfair Security has been extended for another three years.

The financial details are undisclosed but Knights general manager Ian Wilson called it a "significant" amount.

The firm's business development manager Dave Haxton told BBC York: "It's about getting involved with something that makes us proud to be involved in.

"We definitely feel that way about the York City Knights. They're signing some great players as well."

The firm started out by sponsoring the stadium and its involvement has grown from there.

"We were looking to do something with the youth teams and the opportunity arose to be able to sponsor the stadium," Haxton said.

The deal extension was announced to fans at the Huntington Stadium's Bar 13, where Haxton added: "We're very pleased and proud of what the club have achieved in the short time we've been with them.

"It's down to the players and the enthusiasm they've shown. All the staff come to the matches now."
