Michael Knowles
Knowles has been exceptional with the boot, kicking 220 points

Gateshead Thunder forward Michael Knowles has been named in the Championship's All-Star team for the 2009 season.

Knowles, 22, was a key figure in the side that secured safety this season and revealed his delight at being named among the top 13 in the division.

"It's always nice to be recognised for the effort I put in on the pitch," he told the club website.

"I could not have achieved this without the efforts of the guys around me."

The former Castleford second-rower, who made one Super League appearance for the Yorkshire club, has been an integral part of the Thunder side, notably with his precise kicking which accumulated 220 points in 28 matches.

He contributed eight tries and an impressive 94 goals as Thunder ran in 610 points in total.
