York City Knights have announced a new sponsorship partner for the next year.

They have linked up with a North Yorkshire security firm and the main stand at the Huntington Stadium will be renamed the Mayfair Security Stand.

Knights commercial manager Simon Moat told BBC Radio York: "To attract a company like this is a major boost. They've been very generous."

There is an option to extend the deal beyond the initial year but the figures involved have not been disclosed.

"We were looking to increase the security at the stadium and we just took it from there.

"[Renaming the stand] is something that's not been utilised before at the Knights and its something which gives the company a really good profile."

David Haxton, the security firm's business development manager, said: "The Knights do a lot with the community working a lot with the younger children around the area.

"We do a lot with schools and colleges that we look after as well so it looked like a great opportunity for us to do some sponsorship. It's not something we usually do."
