Widnes Vikings have announced free admission for their next home game against Gateshead after back-to-back defeats by Whitehaven and Barrow. Vikings will open the North and South Stands free of charge for the Co-Operative Championship game on 23 May. "The last few results have been disappointing, particularly the defeat at home to Barrow," said Vikings owner Steve O'Connor. "However, it is a time for us all to pull together." O'Connor is aware the club's gesture will not benefit existing season ticket holders but says he is looking at ways to reward them for their continuing loyalty. "Whilst in the short term this will only benefit non-season ticket holders, it is my intention to offer an additional one-game discount to those season ticket holders who renew for 2010 in the 'early bird' period when it is announced," said O'Connor. O'Connor is hoping the club and supporters can come together to help ensure a successful second half to the season. "Everyone at the club is working hard to achieve our goals for this season and with an up and coming Northern Rail Cup quarter-final against York plus over half of the league campaign to come there is still a lot to play for," added O'Connor. Admission for the Co-Operative Championship game against Gateshead at the Stobart Stadium on 23 May will be free for regular North and South Stand seats. There will be a nominal charge for Gold and Silver sections.
