SUNDAY'S MATCHES Featherstone hammered Conference title challengers Wath Brow 54-16 at Post Office Road. Rovers ran in a total of 10 tries with Jon Steel claiming a hat-trick and Joe McLocklan and Andy Kain scoring a brace apiece. Tommy Saxton, Andy Kirk, and Tommy Haughey scored the others. Dave Pettitt, Kevin Thompson and Francis King touched down for Featherstone but they were mere consolationa efforts. Championship One side Oldham overcame French side FC Lezignan-Corbieres 60-30 with Andy Ballard the star of the show for the Roughyeds. Ballard finished with a total of 28 points, including two tries. Lucas Onyango scored a hat-trick and Marcus St Hilaire also scored a brace and there was a try apiece for Thomas Coyle, Phil Joseph and Richard Merville. Batley edged past Hunslet 28-24. The Hawks forged ahead with tries from Darren Robinson and Nicko Slain but the hosts led 16-12 at the break as George Flanagan notched two tries and two conversions, the second of them to add the extras to Jermaine McGillvary's try. Scott Watson's converted try put Hunslet 24-22 in front but Flanagan had the final word, scoring a try and again converting to finish with 18 points. Gateshead saw off Doncaster 32-18 to book their place in the fifth round of the cup. Luke Branighan scored two first-half tries and Andrew Henderson and Dylan Nash tries in the second period made sure for the Thunder. Craig Cook, Peter Green and Gaz Carey grabbed the home side's tries. FRIDAY'S MATCHES Halifax overcame arch rivals Widnes 20-16 at the Shay. All the scoring came in the first 58 minutes in which Widnes held the lead three times before Halifax edged ahead. But the action continued right to the final whistle as the hosts held off a determined late push by the Vikings. Halifax scored through Ben Black, Mark Roberts and Shad Royston, with four Mick Govin goals. Anthony Thackeray and Sam Thompson went over for Widnes. Sheffield had to come from behind to beat Dewsbury 28-18. The 1998 Cup winners trailed 12-8 at half-time despite tries from Ashley Thackeray and Dane McDonald but ground out a win against the spirited Rams. Alex Bretherton and Bryn Powell scored Dewsbury's tries, and Patrick Walker kicked four goals for the visitors. But two tries and two goals by Johnny Woodcock, plus tries by Kyle Wood and Menzie Yere saw Sheffield triumph. Rochdale progressed to the fifth round with a hard-fought 28-22 victory at Swinton. The Hornets trailed 16-10 at the break but roared back in the second half despite Carl Sneyd going over and converting to stretch the hosts' lead. Ian Sinfield's try cut the deficit and Chris Hough scored three goals, and Rochdale's win was sealed by tries from Mark Brocklehurst and Andy Isherwood.
