Whitehaven's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Northern Rail Cup were shattered by a 24-22 defeat by Leigh on Sunday. Discipline problems cost Haven dear as Leigh took advantage of sin-binnings to steal the lead going into the break. The second-half looked promising when Gregg McNally notched a try to give Ged Stokes' side a four-point lead. But Dave McConnell's try and Martyn Ridyard's kick stole the points for Leigh late on.
