Heworth's Elm Park Way ground will host the Knights' Fiji game |
York City Knights have arranged a game against the touring Fijian side on Sunday, 14 December. The game will be played at Heworth's Elm Park Way ground because the Knights' Huntington Stadium ground is being reseeded. Knights general manager Ian Wilson said: "The game's come at a good time. "It gives the boys the chance to have a hit out and we can look at areas in which we need to improve for the pre-season friendlies starting in January." The game is a bonus for the Knights, Wilson said, because "it wasn't really planned for - the Fijians had a spare weekend when Leigh dropped out". | I didn't even know they were touring until I got the email from the RFL General manager Ian Wilson | He added: "We had a chat about it in the office and we thought it would be a good game for the club and for the city to get involved with. Heworth are happy for us [to play there], and the Fijians are happy with the arrangements. "I didn't even know they were touring until I got the email [from the Rugby Football League], and it was something we looked at straight away." The unavailability of the Huntington Stadium pitch has also forced the club to make pre-season training arrangements elsewhere. "We've managed to make alternative arrangements," said Wilson. "It's not ideal but we've had to make the best of a bad situation."
