Raynor has scored just five tries in 21 Super League appearances this season |
England winger Gareth Raynor will miss the World Cup after being told he needs a minor toe operation. The Hull FC player hoped an injection would solve the problem but the injury failed to respond to treatment. Raynor, with five Super League tries this season, is the latest player to pull out of England's train-on squad ahead of the tournament in Australia. Coach Tony Smith is already without Jon Clarke, Sam Burgess, Terry Newton, Paul Deacon, Andy Lynch and Sean O'Loughlin. Smith is due to announce his squad for the World Cup after the Super League Grand Final, which takes place on 4 October. England start their campaign against Papua New Guinea on 25 October before taking on the hosts and New Zealand.
