 Stand-off Mogg's two tries proved crucial |
Adam Mogg scored two second-half tries as Catalans secured at least third spot in Super League with a narrow win over Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium. Tries from Martin Aspinwall and David Hodgson helped the Giants into a 10-4 lead, but Aaron Gorrell went over to reduce the deficit before the break. Stand-off Mogg then touched down twice to give the Dragons a sniff of victory. The visitors finally took the lead when Thomas Bosc landed a penalty 10 minutes from the end of Saturday's match. The Dragons have now won eight games on the road and lie just four points behind second-placed Leeds Rhinos. Huddersfield chairman Ken Davy's decision to allow free admission to hear his announcement of cut-price season tickets paid off, with stewards forced to open up a third side of the Galpharm Stadium for the club's second-highest attendance of the season.
Catalans coach Mick Potter: "We needed the two points - they were vital for us. We still have a little bit of work to do, though. "I was confident right through the game but I was never relaxed because we were always under pressure. It was a hard-fought contest, and conditions played a part in how close it was." On Adam Mogg: "Adam is a very good player who does not get the recognition he deserves. He is vital player and he's going to be good for Catalans for the next three years." Huddersfield caretaker coach Paul Anderson: "We are very disappointed because we feel we should have won the game, but we weren't patient enough and were not prepared to stick in the arm wrestle for 80 minutes. "A lot of things have got to fall in place for us to make the play-offs, but it's not end of it. It may be a long shot. But we've got to have some focus, and that's still our aim at the moment."
