 Winger Richards scored 12 of Wigan's 16 points |
Wigan snatched a dramatic draw courtesy of a final-minute Harrison Hansen try against Catalans Dragons in Perpignan. The Dragons took a 10-4 half-time lead thanks to tries from Aaron Gorrell and Keith Greenshields, with Pat Richards adding a touch down for the visitors. Centre John Wilson extended Catalans' lead after the break, with Thomas Bosc adding the extras with the boot. But Richards responded with his second try before Hansen's late score, kicking both goals to draw a tense match. Hansen's late score capped off a resilient second-half resurgence from Wigan, who also had a Liam Colbon try disallowed by the video referee. But the home side could have sewn up the victory had Bosc slotted over a regulation penalty 20m from Wigan's posts halfway through the second half. But the scrum-half - the second-highest points scorer in Super League this season - somehow contrived to miss, allowing Wigan the opportunity to storm back and scrape the point. Gorrell opened the scoring in the 17th minute when he powered over from dummy-half before feeding Greenshields 10 minutes later for the French side's second score. But a fine Richards try, courtesy of a Thomas Leuluai long pass, ensured Wigan trailed by six points at the interval. Bosc was the orchestrator of the Dragons' third try, lofting a high-ball for Wilson, who took full advantage of confusion in the Wigan defence to touch down. Bosc added the extras, but Wigan - without influential playmaker Trent Barrett - had Leuluai to thank for their second, making a fine line break to send Richards over for his second score. The try rejuvenated Wigan as they pounded the French side's line, first with Colbon before Hansen's 79th-minute score, coolly converted by Richards.
Wigan coach Brian Noble: "We deserved a point and had the bounce of the ball gone our way we may have got two points. "We were aggressive in defence and you have to be against this team. "They kicked better than us for the majority of the game, but then we found some kicks, we found some patience, and we found a reason to stay in the game."
