York City Knights winger and top try scorer Lee Mapals has been put on the transfer list at his own request. Mapals met with the club management on Tuesday after being dropped from the team for the second time this season for disciplinary reasons. Coach Paul March confirmed that Mapals told the club he no longer wanted to play for York. Other clubs have already shown an interest in Mapals and the Knights want a player or cash in exchange for him. Mapals told the club that Oldham and Featherstone have already been in touch with his agent. The 22-year-old broke into the first-team from the club's academy in 2006, making two appearances. He followed that up by scoring 19 tries last season and 18 so far this year. | The team is bigger than any individual Assistant coach James Ratcliffe |
A club statement said Mapals did not fall out with the management but they did ask him to simply fulfil his contract by attending training sessions. The statement went on to say that despite the efforts of the coaching staff and other players to provide him with lifts to training Mapals was still missing on a regular basis. The club felt there was no other alternative but to agree to his request to leave and not keep him against his will. After the game at Gateshead at the weekend assistant coach James Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "The team is bigger than any individual. "Its a matter of everyone's equal at the club. If you're not training and if you're not committing to what we're trying to do it tells on other people's attitudes to how they do things as well."
