York City Knights put in their worst performance of the season against basement club London Skolars, according to assistant coach James Ratcliffe. After beating National Two leaders Keighley last week, the Knights only drew 20-20 with Skolars on Sunday. Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "I think it was probably the worst performance of the season from us as a team. "It's attitude. We spoke about it. It's written on the board in there in big block capital letters." He continued: "Mental attitude, they've not applied it and they've been caught short." After a near-flawless display against Keighley, Ratcliffe was disappointed at the poor work-rate from the team. He said: "To go from a team with 98% completion last week and then 87% in the second half, we've gone in at 35% and 51% this week. It's just not good enough. | We can't just judge people by where they are in the league. The league will look after itself. We've just got to keep winning games York City Knights assistant James Ratcliffe |
"Everything we've been doing so well over the last four weeks - the push, the first contacts, the floor work, the line speed, the willingness to work hard off the ball. It's not been evident. "Other than Ryan Esders and Rob Spicer I think every one of them needs to have a long hard look at themselves." Ratcliffe has said there will be a lot of hard work this week ahead of the game at Rochdale Hornets on Sunday. "We've just spoken about it to the players. Expect to get put through the mill as regards the video, expect to do a lot of hard work on the training park on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. "In some respects, I've just said to the players we might look at this in six or seven weeks and say that could have been a turning point for the better. "We can't just judge people by where they are in the league. The league will look after itself. We've just got to keep winning games."
