Celtic Crusaders scored eight tries without reply in the second half to see off visiting Lokomotiv Moscow in the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Sunday.

The Welsh side started comfortably as Josh Hannay and Damien Quinn crossed the try line in quick succession.

But the Russians hit back to level at 10-10 as Oleg Smirnov and Nikolay Zagoskin forced their way through.

Tony Duggan's try, converted by Jace Van Dijk, gave Crusaders a slim lead at the break before the second-half blitz.

The Crusaders' superior fitness and improved ball skills were the major difference after half-time, with Ian Webster grabbing a hat-trick among the flurry of tries from the home side.

Crusaders operations manager Gerald McCarthy now hopes that his side will draw a Super League club in round four.

"We'd love to compete against the best Super League has to offer," McCarthy said.

"We've already beaten Harlequins this season, albeit in a friendly, and they're now competing at the top of Super League.

"But we've quite a few games before we worry about that, starting with Doncaster at the Brewery Field next Saturday."
