Wakefield showed huge determination to edge past Warrington and move into second place in the Super League.
The Wildcats led 10-0 through tries from Peter Fox and Ryan Atkins and were four points clear at the break.
Warrington began the second half strongly with tries from Chris Bridge and Jon Clarke, with Bridge converting both efforts.
But Wakefield hit back with tries from Waine Pryce, Ben Jeffries and Tevita Leo-Latu and they held on for victory.
Wakefield coach John Kear:
"It was a really tough game and a great advert for rugby league. "You can see why the crowds are up. If you want skill, controversy and determination and a bit of physicality then come down to Belle Vue.
"The players are putting it in and I'd like to complement Warrington as well because they added to the spectacle."
Warrington coach Paul Cullen:
"We've come up with too many mistakes and that's what has cost us. "At 24-16 our composure wasn't good enough to secure the win. There was
enough effort and enough skill, but not enough composure.
"Our preparation and thought process is now geared towards beating Hull
Kingston Rovers in the Challenge Cup next weekend."
