Wales made a confident start to their European Nations Cup campaign with a 22-14 win over Scotland in Bridgend.

The Welsh scored five tries to two to give new coach Martin Hall a winning start to his reign.

Featherstone winger Bryn Powell scored two tries and others came from skipper Lee Briers, Adam Hughes and Jordan James, Mark Lennon kicking one goal.

Hull scrum-half Danny Brough scored two tries for Scotland, with Gareth Morton kicking three goals.

  • In the opening game of the European Nations Cup in Arles on Saturday, France hammered Russia 80-0 in coach John Monie's first game in charge.

    The French scored 14 tries, with Limoux prop David Ferriol and Pia scrum-half Maxime Greseque scoring two apiece, as they warmed up for next Sunday's international against England at Headingley.
